Ron Monatanaro spent several years on the pro surfing tour back in the day. These days, the pros get to surf the best surf spots around the world. When Ron was touring, they had to grovel in small waves. Ron is very skilled at making to most out of each ride.

SUP With Ron?
Ron Montanaro has been competing in a few Stand Up Paddle races. He paddled from Molikai to Oahu and got 1st place in his division.
He teaches Stand Up Paddle lessons for Hans Hedemann Surf School.
Ron came in on his day off to catch a few waves on one of our Donald Takayama pro SUP boards.

Team Ron Montanaro
Ron brought in his friends for a surf lesson.
Of course, Ron teaches how to style while riding a wave.
One wave and 3 surfers. Normally our instructors need to give a student a push into a wave for them to stand up.
Ron was able to teach his students to catch their own waves within the first hour.

Foot Stall
Ron saw a guy out a Publics in Waikiki getting a L - O - N - G tube ride doing a foot stall like the one described in theis article in Surfing Magazine.
Ron went out during a lesson and gave it a try. The waves were not tubing, but surf photographer John Elliot got a cool sequence in spite of the small waves.

Renaissance man or Homo universalis are common terms to describe a person well educated, or who excels, in a wide variety of subjects or fields.
Ron Montanaro is a Renaissance Man. He has many talents. Ron traveled the world as a pro surfer. Toured as a musicaian with many famous bands. Shapes his own surfboards. Teaches guitar. And happens to be one of the best instructors at HH Surf.
We get MANY students who come back wanting to ONLY surf with Ron. That can be problematic since he only works four days a week.
I admit, at first, the HAIR freaked me out.
It only takes a minute to see through to the genuine person.
And he is a REALLY good surfer …
On stage, he transforms. Very talented !!!
