The Spanish Armada Invades HH Surf

We had a group of 15 students  spend a month in Honolulu studying English at Global Village Language School.  They booked 16 surf lessons here at Hans Hedemann Surf School.

They all progressed quite quickly from 11 foot Soft Top surfboards to shorter fiberglass boards.

They would all come after language school and join our 3pm lesson.  The ocean where we surf would go from empty to filled with colorful surfboards most afternoons.  They did literally look like an armada of ships.

The instructors had a great time with such enthusiastic students and the Spaniards will be missed.

Aloha Team Spain !!!!

Fun In the Sun

Anita is half German and half Japanese.  She lives in Shanghai and comes back summer after summer to surf at Hans Hedemann Surf School.  Unfortunately, she will not be see this post since the Chinese government blocks most Blogs from outside of their country.

Great photo with Diamond Head in the background.

Does this look like fun?

These two friends came for a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) lesson.  We held their paddles while they surfed a few waves.

They even rode one of the boards together.

What a beautiful place to teach surf lessons.

Let’s have a great time together at Hans Hedemann Surf School.

The Man Behind The Photos

Joseph Libby shoots photos for Hans Hedemann Surf School 6 days a week rain or shine. (mostly shine being in Waikiki…)

He has a lot of money invested in his equipment.

If you see Joey with his eye to the lens and wearing his iPod …. LEAVE HIM ALONE !!!  He HATES to miss photos of students while someone asks him, “How big is that lens?” or “Can I take a look?”

He is working and doesn’t like to be interrupted.  He has dozens of stories about the shots he has missed when someone tapped him on the shoulder.

Joey is looking like this, ask all the questions you like ….  Just don’t ask to look through his lens if you are all wet.  Please !

Magazine Photo Shoot

A lifestyle magazine wanted to get a cover shot of a surfer catching a wave with Waikiki in the background.  The photographer asked to use a small boat.  Since motorized craft are not allowed off the coast of Waikiki, we used one of our outrigger canoes.

Here with Serge steering and Dean digging in to catch a wave.

Go Dean, GO!!!!

Dean looks VERY serious.

Good job Serge and Dean.
